Noah’s Ark is thrilled to receive a £2,000 donation from fashion and homeware retailer TK Maxx.

Noah’s Ark is thrilled to receive a £2,000 donation from fashion and homeware retailer TK Maxx. TK Maxx is a subsidiary of the American apparel and home goods company TJ Maxx and, after meeting a family who was supported by Noah’s Ark, a member of their senior management team was inspired to make a difference to more families in similar situations.

Stephen Cook, District Manager London of TJX Europe, met Elsie and her parents Helen and Arun on holiday earlier this year. Hearing about Elsie and how Noah’s Ark supported the family, Stephen was compelled to help support more children with life-limiting and life-threating conditions, and their families in North and Central London.

Elsie’s mum Helen said: “When our daughter Elsie was diagnosed with leukaemia, our world was torn apart and we had no idea how we were going to make it through. Importantly for our family, the Noah’s Ark community-based team were there for us throughout Elsie’s treatment and recovery.“Elsie had a Specialist Carer Jules who would take total charge of her medical needs offering us as parents valuable respite at a time when Elsie’s care was beyond intense and all consuming. Elsie also had a Play Specialist who would come in to our home or hospital room and play with Elsie.

“This was really valuable because Elsie had virtually no contact with the outside world for 18 months, so these stimulating and fun sessions really enriched her days. She used to say Jules was her best friend; there was a really special bond between them.”

Stephen said: “Having met Elsie and her family on holiday, and after becoming a father myself, I was inspired by the love Helen and Arun have for Elsie, whilst also acknowledging how challenging both physically and emotionally their journey has been. Knowing that Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice was local to me, I was compelled to apply for a grant from the TK Maxx Community Fund. The charity has been invaluable to Elsie and her family. These funds will make a real difference in helping Noah’s Ark with all the fantastic work that they do for hundreds of children in North and Central London.”

The £2,000 cheque was accepted on behalf of the charity by Anthony Hayman, Assistant Director of Income Generation at Noah’s Ark.

Anthony commented: “We are thrilled to receive this generous grant from the TK Maxx Community Fund which will enable a wider breadth of care for more babies, children, young people, and their families. We enjoyed welcoming a senior representative from TK Maxx to The Ark – our children’s hospice building which is due to open next year. It’s clear that the business is truly committed to supporting its local community.”
