Our Services
Noah's Ark currently has a very active community team, providing
vital support to life-limited or life-threatened children and their
families. Through initiatives like our Play Scheme, Siblings
Support Programme, Family Support Service and Carers Bank we are
able to offer families support where it is most needed, filling
gaps in provision from other service providers.
With land now acquired, this community work will, one day, be
complemented by additional services within a hospice
building.
Family Support
Noah's Ark believe that support should encompass the whole family
- the life-limited child, their siblings, the parents/carers and,
often, the wider family network.
Respite & Therapeutic
Play
Our team of play specialists enable the children, and their
siblings, to receive active play and stimulation within the setting
of their own home. Helping them overcome fears and anxieties,
sessions can also give mum or dad a well-deserved break.
Family Support
Service
We have created a ground-breaking programme to recruit, train and
monitor volunteers who work directly with families - offering
support to them based on the families' expressed areas of
need. This can range from practical support such as shopping,
light housework or gardening, through to playing with the children
or helping with homework.
Family Days
Giving families the chance to go out together, have fun and meet
others facing similar situations to their own is incredibly
important. Lack of adequate support, transport, time or money
can make such outings tremendously difficult for families coping
with a life-limited child. Noah's Ark relieves these burdens
and hosts many different types of family days through the year -
greatly enhancing their quality of life and providing special
memories for the future.
Specialist
Carers
Noah's Ark have a nurse led team of carers delivering sessions of
care in families homes - to encompass days, nights and weekends.
The carers work alongside parents and are there to look after the
child/young person while the parents have a short break either in
the home or by going out.
We work closely with the child and family, as well as the GP,
Children's Nursing Teams and all other services that may be
involved in providing care. By working together we can ensure that
all children and families receive the best possible care.
Sibling Support
The brothers and sisters of an unwell child also have particular
emotional needs that must be met. The Sibling Support
Programme provides children of all ages and abilities, and from all
backgrounds, the opportunity to become involved in a group that is
solely focussed on them.
Two siblings group now meet on a regular basis - one for 4-10 year
olds, the other for 11-18 year olds. Trips to Legoland, the
cinema and even an adventure weekend away are just a few of
the exciting activities that they can take part in. They are
fully supported by trained volunteers who allow them to express
their feelings through carefully planned activities, as well as
giving them the opportunity to meet other children in situations
similar to their own.
